Western Running Club Appreciates Support from the Cherokee Road Runners!
A running club has been established at Western High School to help students who generally do not participate in sports to find an outlet to build their self-worth, self-confidence, learn how to set reachable goals and also to give these students something positive to do. They are sponsored by Julie Williams, a member of CRR. 18 students are currently registered with the club. Of those 18 students, 12 ran in the Throo the Zoo race as well as 4 Western High School teachers. Julie wanted to tell all of the CRR members, “Thank you for the donation to help these students have the opportunity to participate in the Throo the Zoo race. Without this donation these students would not have financially been able to run. Every day a new student comes to my room. I can’t wait to see how big and active our club can become.” According to Colleen Davis, another teacher at Western who participated in Throo the Zoo, “As soon as the students crossed the finish line they were already asking when the next race would take place.” Training will take place throughout the summer on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m. Anyone wishing to run with us come meet at Western High School at 2501 Rockford Lane. All CRR runners are invited. When the club needs help with races or anything else, Julie says that CRR can count on Western to be there to help in a BIG way.
