Negril, Westmoreland – It was a trip back in time to the 80s, an ode to the decade the luxury brand was founded, and some 4,000 returning customers had a blast on their journey through Reunion Sandals Resorts Week 2022, April 18-22.
With many guests joining the week-long celebrations for the first time since the novel coronavirus pandemic hit, all 16 resorts combined across the Caribbean saw a 300% increase in repeat customers compared to 2021.
Created by Sandals Resorts International to honor its loyal customers and thank them for their commitment to the brand and its destinations over the years, Sandals Select Guest Reunion Week remains one of the most popular events of its kind on the Sandals calendar.
Events throughout the week immersed guests in a cultural melting pot reflecting the 80s influence on fashion, music, dance, film and food.
At Sandals Negril, loyal guests “tattooed”, “running man” and “glided disco” throughout the night during the 80s Glow in the Dark Disco Silent Headphone party.
Last Tuesday was a treat for fashion lovers who saw a staff fashion show reminiscent of the decade of big hair, shoulder pads, dramatic accessories, acid wash jeans and fabrics, colors and patterns that tire the eyes.
The 40th anniversary celebration dinner, dubbed “Ole Story Time”, paid homage to Jamaican culture with bandana-themed outfits, a maypole-influenced decor and a showcase of expertly executed Jamaican dance by the Evolution Dance Group.
Of course, the week wouldn’t have been nearly complete without off-property visits to historic locations such as Rhodes Hall Plantation in Hannover and attending the always-anticipated Managers’ Talent Show.
According to Sandals Negril guests Timothy and Anita Hardesty, the resort is their home, “We come to Sandals every year. This is actually our eighth trip and it’s like coming to see our other family. We love coming to Reunion Week, we find we meet a lot of the same people year after year and that makes it so much more fun.
“This year we chose Sandals Negril and there are great people working here. Sandals just isn’t your everyday resort, it’s full of high quality and attention to specific detail, I invite everyone to give it a try,” the couple shared.
Reunion Week in the Montego Bay area brought together more than 400 guests. And what a ball they had, putting on their dancing shoes and dancing to the sights and sounds of the 80s era.
The flagship Sandals Montego Bay resort and neighboring Sandals Royal Caribbean held sizzling opening ceremonies with marching bands and Glow in The Dark costume parties with guests dressed in themed costumes to live and have a good time.
Maurice and Erica Ahearn, multiple guests at Sandals Montego Bay, praised the week of activities.
“We had an amazing time and Reunion week just keeps getting better,” Maurice noted. The couple said they particularly enjoyed the theme and looked forward to many more such events.
The celebration at South Coast kicked off with 274 returning guests and staff joining in a parade led by the Eagle Star Band and later a mixology competition with teams made up of managers and guests.
The remaining days saw a fashion show, a Jamaican-themed gala dinner where guests experienced Jamaican culture in pure and concentrated form, and an off-property picnic excursion to the Appleton Rum Estate.
The Ocho Rios area offered a full range of activities to celebrate Reunion Week 2022. From traditional beach parties, catamaran cruises mixed with a kite show, to exploring Konoko Falls , guests of Sandals Ochi Beach Resort and Sandals Royal Plantation were in for a treat.
“We will always ensure that our customers have a good time; that’s why we brought them back to the excitement of the 1980s with fashion, food and flair. From the party atmosphere at dinner for returning guests to a variety of party activities on the beach, our guests have been busy reflecting on the early years,” said Gayonne Campbell, Loyalty and Travel Manager at Sandals Ochi.
Sandals continues to boast an impressive customer base of more than 40% comprised of members of the company’s Sandals Select Rewards Club program, which offers membership savings and exclusive gifts and recognition benefits, including free vacations for frequent Sandals visitors.
Members of the management and entertainment team at Sandals Negril were decked out in bright colors, style and fabrics reflecting the 80s era. The crew was captured after their thrilling fashion show during the celebration of the week of the station meeting.
