A-State’s Aimar Palma Simo wins Sun Belt Field Male Athlete of the Week
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) — After finishing as the top middle schooler in his event Saturday at the Louisiana Classics, Arkansas State’s Aimar Palma Simo has been named the Sun Belt Conference Male Athlete of the Week.
The Castellon, Spain native finished second in the men’s hammer throw on Saturday at Lafayette, throwing the apparatus 64.94m (213-0.0). Palma Simo finished behind former A-State star Cristian Ravar Ladislau, who holds the school record in the event.
Palma Simo put together a strong streak from the field, with his four legal throws going 208 feet past the marker.
Wednesday’s honor marks Palma Simo’s second weekly young career award, as the runner-up won the Male Athlete of the Week billing on the court on April 29, 2021 – his first outdoor campaign in which he went on to win the hammer throw laurels at the 2021 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships.
A-State has a busy week, with action spread over three games. Some athletes will compete in the Lone Star State at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, while the rest of the team is expected to compete in the Ole Miss Classic.
