Alaluf named Missouri Valley Conference Goaltender of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Senior Maddy Alalouf was named Missouri Valley Conference Goaltender of the Week for her performances against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and Southeast Missouri State (SEMO).

“It was a completely different season and a completely different type of competition,” Alaluf said. “We have four goalkeepers in this squad and each one of us is amazing. The competition in training and the level we are at at the moment helps me become the best version of myself.”

Alaluf started his week with a solid performance against SIUE on Thursday night. The senior goaltender allowed just one goal and made three saves to preserve the 1-1 draw against the Cougars.

Three days later, Alaluf was flawless in the in-goal for the Salukis in their 1-0 win at SEMO. Alaluf made a season-high 11 saves and didn’t allow a goal to earn the shutout against the Redhawks. The shutout was the second of the season for the seniors.

“I think the first thing [behind success] is the confidence I have in myself and the confidence I have in my team,” said Alaluf.

This is the first time an SIU goaltender has received this honor in program history. It comes a week after the Salukis won their first conference honors, with Liz Brechtel and Paris Walsh be recognized as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.

During the season, Alaluf allowed only five goals and made 26 saves. The senior also has a GAA of 1.00 and an SV% of 0.839, both of which are career highs.

The Salukis will start the conference game this weekend against Drake on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
