Alkier wins GS as Panthers take second place at Middlebury Carnival
Justin Alkier won the GS on his home course on Saturday.
The Middlebury Alpine and Nordic Ski Teams wrapped up the two-day Middlebury Carnival on Saturday, finishing second with 865 points, behind only Vermont (1,034). In giant slalom, the Panthers finished one-two in the men’s race with justin alker taking first place on the podium and Bradshaw Underwood was the runner-up.
The Panther Alpine Team will compete again on Sunday, hosting an NCAA Individual Qualifying Giant Slalom, while the Nordic Team awaits the New Hampshire Carnival/EISA Championships next weekend.
Alkier won the men’s GS with a time of 2:00.45, while Underwood was next in 2:00.98 to claim second place. Axel Bailey completed the hosts’ score with a time of 2:03.62 to place 12th.
Panther women shone in GS, like Lucia Bailey was the first athlete from Middlebury to cross the finish line. Bailey was fifth in a two-run time of 2:06.67, while Yubero finished a spot later with a time of 2:07.30. Alexandra Cosette also placed in the top 10, claiming eighth place in 2:07.76.
In the men’s Nordic 20km freestyle, Middlebury put in an impressive performance, led by third-place finisher Peter Wolter in 52:28.5. Will Nemeth finished the course in 54:19.4 to place seventh, while Logan Moore was next to cross the finish line with a time of 54:32.2.
In the women’s 15k, Quincy Massey-Bierman was the top of the Panthers, placing 19th overall in 49:09.4. Avery Ellis then completed the course for Middlebury, taking 26th in 49:31.8, while Charlotte Ogden finished 29th (50:12.2).
