Athletics Hosts Pentathlon Intrasquad Scrimmage
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams will host the 18th Annual Intrasquad Pentathlon Championship on Tuesday, November 23 at 2:45 p.m. at Gilliam Indoor Stadium. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
“I have been doing this test for over 40 years and the results are really indicative of an individual’s level of fitness as well as their competitiveness. That’s why we’re doing this, ”said head coach Pat Henry. “We want to understand who is ready to compete. Even though it might not be their main event, if they have a bad standing long jump they either forget about it and move on and do a good standing triple jump or they have a good throw. That’s what we’re trying to figure out, who does a bad job and who does a good job.
The pentathlon consists of a 30m sprint, a standing long jump, a standing triple jump, an overhead back throw and a front throw between the legs. The men’s team is divided into three teams of 15 athletes each, while the women’s team is divided into two teams of 15 athletes. After each event performance, athletes are given a point value based on a performance chart, which is added to the team total.
Before the start of the pentathlon, the 800m group will complete the 1,000m time trial at 3pm.
