Athletics teams set for 2022 SCAC Championships this weekend

San Antonio, TX- The men’s and women’s Centennial Track and Field teams will compete in the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships this weekend beginning Saturday at Trinity University Track & Field Stadium.

The two-day event, hosted by SCAC member Trinity University, features the ladies and men as well as the host Tigers, Colorado College, University of Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran . Live results are available at the link below:

The championship begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the men’s and women’s track events followed by field events at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session begins at 4 p.m. with the track events. The second day of the championship begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday with track events followed by field events starting at 9 a.m. Field events continue from 10:30 a.m. and the afternoon session begins at noon. The final event is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at around 2:20 p.m.

Sophomore Devante’ Jack (Jena, Louisiana) will be in the spotlight this weekend after being named SCAC’s Male Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after winning the men’s 800 meters with a season best time of 1:56.85 last Friday. at Little Rock Twilight. Jack has beaten several Division I school athletes and now has three top-10 finishes in the 800 this season in addition to his win, including a second-place finish.

Junior Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) took first place in the women’s competition last Friday as she placed 10th in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 13.04. The ladies recorded three top-15 finishes in a strong performance in preparation for the conference test this weekend. Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, TX) and rookie Madeline Vacula (Belton, TX) are looking to continue their impressive seasons this weekend and on the men’s side, sophomore Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.), rookie Deandre Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas), and senior Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas) are looking to do the same.

Centenary has recorded 10 individual top-15 finishes as well as seven top-five men’s and women’s finishes combined this season. Centenary made its debut in the SCAC Championship program last season in Seguin, Texas, as the ladies finished fifth and had nine points while the gentlemen placed ninth. Trinity won the men’s and women’s titles, and Colorado College finished second to both sides.
