Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Time) boys Athlete of the week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of nominees who have stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from September 19 to 24.

Polling stations close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you want until then.

On to the nominees:

Nic Austen, College Park Water Polo: The freshman scored six goals and had two interceptions to help College Park to a 16-10 win over the Alhambra. In his side’s 16-11 loss to Tamalpais two days earlier, Austen had three goals and a steal. He started this week with 44 goals, 28 steals and 12 assists for a team at 8-6.

Quinn Boyd, Granada football: In his team’s 34-8 non-league win over San Leandro, the junior completed 10 of 16 passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns as the Matadors prevailed at home to improve to 2-3. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Boyd also ran for 31 yards on three carries.

Andre Latimore, Del Mar Football: The junior quarterback rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries as Del Mar beat Andrew Hill 50-8 in a Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division opener. Latimore rushed for 681 yards and six touchdowns this season for a team starting 2-2.

Shay O’Kelly, preparation football at the Sacred Heart: In a home defensive battle against Los Gatos, which Sacred Heart Prep won 10-7 with a short field goal in the final seconds, the 6-2, 220-pound linebacker led the Gatos with 12 tackles, two sacks and a recovered fumble. . Los Gatos entered the match ranked 10th by the Bay Area News Group. SHP improved to 4-1.

Ben Pfaff, Bellarmine Football: The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior scored three touchdowns to help lead the Bells to a 34-14 win over St. Ignatius in a West Catholic Athletic League opener at San Jose City College . He finished with 124 yards of offense – 57 rushing and 67 receiving. In a win over San Leandro this season, he rushed for 305 yards and three touchdowns and caught a pass for 42 yards.

Luciano Roberts, cross-country Saint-Ignace: In the West Catholic Athletic League I race at Golden Gate Park, the junior set the fastest time. He covered the three-mile distance in 15:51.1 to finish more than six seconds ahead of second.

Danny Scudero, Archbishop Mitty Football: The senior rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on six carries and caught three passes for 49 yards and a TD as Mitty went undefeated with a 32-21 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral in a 2018 game. opening of the West Catholic Athletic League at Kezar Stadium. Alex Szewczyk, Fremont-Sunnyvale Water Polo: In his side’s wins last week over Santa Clara and Monta Vista, the senior scored 18 goals. Szewczyk has 45 goals this season for a team that started this week atop the El Camino division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Dominick Tomlin, Freedom Football: The senior carried 11 times for 158 yards and a touchdown as Freedom, playing at home to Oakley, beat Eastlake-Chula Vista 46-28 in a non-league game. Tomlin also caught a nine-yard pass as Freedom improved to 2-2. He’s averaging 10.1 yards per rush attempt.

Michael Vanhook, El Cerrito football: The junior threw first-half touchdown passes to Warren Smith and LeDuane Thomas as the Gauchos beat Vacaville 14-9 to take their record to 4-0. Vanhook, a transfer from De Anza, threw a TD pass to Smith in the first quarter and Thomas in the second. El Cerrito led 14-0 at halftime and then crashed in the second half.
