Beadlescomb Named B1G Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Days after making history, a Michigan State graduate student Morgan Beadlescomb was named Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Beadlescomb’s time of 3:52.03 in the men’s Magnificent Mile at the Windy City Invite not only set a new personal best and MSU record, but also recorded what is the fourth fastest time of any male runner. from the NCAA in the indoor mile. The two best times in college history are held by the competition at Beadlescomb on Friday. Former Oregon Ducks and current pro runners Cooper Teare (3:50.17) and Cole Hocker (3:50.35) both lowered their own personal bests in the race compared to their college PR. Teare’s time of 3:50.39 in the 2021 season ranks No. 1 all-time in the NCAA, while Hocker’s time of 3:50.55 in 2021 is the second-best in history from college.

Beadlescomb’s school record is the second he has broken this season, clocking 7:43.22 in the men’s 3000m at the 114th Millrose Games last month. His mile time is also the fastest in the NCAA this season.

A four-time NCAA All-American on track and a three-time NCAA All-American in cross-country, Beadlescomb now holds five school records between indoor and outdoor track.

Beadlescomb is the second Spartan to earn weekly conference honors in the 2021-22 indoor track and field season, as a pole vaulter Sophie Franklin was named B1G Indoor Female Athlete of the Week last week after breaking the school’s indoor record with a jump of 4.38m at the Meyo Invitational.

Michigan State returns to action this weekend, heading to the Silverston Invitational on Feb. 18 and the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 19 in the final team tune-up before the Big Ten Championships.
