Blue Devils announce incoming freshman class

DURHAM – Duke Wrestling Head Coach Glen Lanham announced the program’s new freshman class for the 2022-23 season. Five freshmen – Connor Barket, Console Gaetan, Ethan Grimminger, Cameron Morgan and Nick Tatini join graduate transfer potted Papcsy as new additions to the roster in the fall.

“As a team, we are very excited about the incoming recruiting class,” Lanham said. “We really needed to work out some depth issues that we had in a couple of our weight classes. We’re confident we’ve done that. I know these guys can’t wait to start their careers as Duke Blue Devil wrestlers. !”

 

Connor Barket

The first of the two to join the Indiana Blue Devils, Barket comes to Durham via West Lafayette, Indiana, and West Lafayette High School. Under head coach Rick Roseman, Barket is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in school history, going 54-1 in his senior year en route to the championships. conference, section and regional. During his career at West Lafayette, Barket went 150-14 combined, winning four conference and section titles and three regional titles, while reaching the semi-state finals as a senior. Barket left his name in the record books, with 147 takedowns last season, setting a school record. Off the mats, Barket was a three-time All-Conference and two-time All-Area defensive and an honored All-State Academic first team in football and wrestling.


Console Gaetan

A native of Barrington Hills, Illinois, Console joins the Blue Devils after a decorated career at St. Viator High School. A two-time regional IHSA 2A champion, Console has had several strong performances in the state, including a second-place finish at Sections in 2021 and a fourth-place finish at the state championship. The console also brings success in wrestling Greco as the 2018 Illinois Greco-Roman State Champion and the 2019 Central Plains Regional Cadet Greco title among multiple Greco and freestyle finishes. A three-time captain, Console led by example during her time in high school. Graduated from Console with High Honors and was a 2021-22 Illinois State Scholar, while being on the Director’s Honor Roll and Suburban Wrestling Honor Roll every four years .

Ethan Grimminger

Headed to Durham via Orange, Calif., Grimminger made waves at the lightweight levels of high school wrestling. At Servite High School, Grimminger capped off his career as Trinity League Champion, First Team All-Trinity League, and Wrestling College Athlete of the Year. A Southern California Masters qualifier, CIF Southern Section runner-up, and Junior Greco-Roman Fargo All-American, Grimminger has been incredibly active on the junior circuit. An accomplished competitor in judo, Grimminger was a two-time state champion and national junior Olympic champion, with a first-degree black belt. Grimminger graduated summa cum laude with honors as an accomplished student.

Cameron Morgan

Another East Coast product, Morgan heads to Durham via Pennsville, NJ after a solid career at Pennsville Memorial High School. Under head coach John Starkovich, Morgan was a first-team All-County for all four years of his career and that culminated in the district title and a regional second-place finish as a senior. Morgan made waves outside of Pennsville, winning state championship honors in freestyle and greco in 2019. A member of the National Honors Society, Morgan comes from an athletic family, with her mother Stephanie playing softball at the Elizabethtown College.

Nick Tatini

A native of Crown Point, Ind., Tattini rounds out the incoming freshman class with a strong pedigree of success in Hoosier State. A two-time sophomore and senior sectional champion, Tattini went from 113 pounds as a freshman to 145 pounds where he enjoyed great success as a senior. Tattini helped Crown Point win the 4A State Championship and IHSAA Championship, while also qualifying for state championships. Tattini also added several high-profile finishes, including runners-up at the Al Smith Invitational and Carnahan Memorial. A gifted student, Tattini finished each college year as either magna cum laude or summa cum laude.
