Catamount Women’s Track announces new additions for 2021-22

CULLOWHEE, North Carolina – West Carolina Head Track Coach Jesse Normand today announced the addition of nine female signatories for the 2021-22 school year. The new signatories will compete in distance, jumps, sprints and throws and will consist of eight freshmen and one transfer.

“The coaching staff welcomes this new class of eight freshmen and a transfer to Catamount Nation. This year’s class was sought after as a group that could help close the gap over our competition in the Conference. Armani Blair (Harding University HS – Charlotte, North Carolina)

PR’s: 17-11 (long jump), 12.01 (100m), 25.60 (200m)
Coach’s Notes: “Armani will be a specialist in the long jump / short sprint. She is expected to compete immediately in the Southern Conference in the long jump and 100m as the 200m develops further. “

Isabelle Broman-Fulks (Watauga HS – Boone, North Carolina)

PR’s: 12:35 (3200m), 19:57 (5k)
Coach Notes: “Isabelle should be a solid contribution to the cross country team in the fall and will be working to develop her speed skills in the spring. “

Alesea Caldwell (Tuscola HS – Waynesville, NC)

PR’s: 5:34 (1600m), 20:47 (5k)
Coach’s Notes: “Alesea is a local product, originally from Waynesville. We hope to continue her development and find an event where she can contribute to the team’s goals in the spring. “

Madelynn Duffield (Delran HS – Delran, NJ)

PR’s: 2: 27.16 (800m), 5:32 (1600m), 12:05 (3200m)
Coach’s Notes: “Madelynn is from the North East and was a high school middle distance specialist who will be racing cross country for the first time this fall. She has divided her time between athletics and football in high school and has what it takes to become a complete athlete with her multisport background. “

Sydney Gallant (High Point University / Century HS – Sykesville, Maryland)

PR’s: 10-8 (Pole vault)
Coach’s Notes: “Sydney comes to WCU through High Point University. She specializes in pole vault.

Sara Klemm (Yorkville HS – Yorkville, Illinois)

PR’s: 2:33 (800m), 5:29 (1600m), 11:28 (3200m), 18:53 (5k)
Coach’s Notes: “Sara is the younger sister of the current Catamount Maggie Klemm. Sara will be a long distance specialist for WCU. She has what it takes to be an under 18 hrs 5 km fast athlete and should be able to improve in her performance as her speed and aerobic capacity builds within our training system. . “

Taniyah Thomas (Hoover HS – Birmingham, Alabama)

PR’s: 36-0 (Put), 134-1 (Discus), 105-9 (Javelin)
Coach Notes: “A late pickup, Taniyah comes to WCU to partner with current Catamount, Victoria solheim, to strengthen our throwing program. We look forward to Taniyah being mentored by Victoria this coming year so we can continue the success the throwing program has enjoyed over the past few years. “

Jennifer Wagner (York HS – Yorktown, Virginia)

PR’s: 11-0 (Pole vault)
Coach Notes: “Jennifer is coming to WCU, thrilled to be working with Assistant Coach DJ (David johnston) promoting its development. We hope that she can become a top level vaulter in the Southern Conference in the years to come. “

Madeleine Wagner (First Flight HS – Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina)

PR’s: 2:23 (800m), 3:18 (1k), 19:53 (5k)
Coach Notes: “Maddy is coming from the North Carolina coast to join the Catamounts this fall. 4 x 800m relay championships. She is primarily a middle distance-focused athlete who will look to become a strong contributor in the fall and able to score in events ranging from 800m to 3km in the spring.
