CUI Track & Field prepares for the intra-team meeting


IRVINE, Calif .– The CUI track and field team are gearing up for the next indoor season with their intra-team meet this Saturday.

The Eagles are excited to compete this weekend as they look to build their strong 2021 campaign. Last year, nine Eagles were recognized among the best in the NCAA DII West region by the Athletics Coaches Association. and United States Cross Country (USTFCCCA).

Seniors out of competition Madison Hergert and Paige johnson are just two of the many names to watch for this season on the women’s team.

Johnson won the U.S. Second Team All-Star title at the NCAA DII Track and Field Championships and set several school records last spring. His mark in the 100m hurdles was one of the best in the entire western region. Hergert holds the school record in the 400 and is also a force in the QN relay and 4×400 relay as a versatile runner.

On the men’s side, Mike Ervin is ready for another great year. The first CUI male student-athlete to be named PacWest Male Track and Field Fellow of the Year, Ervin tied his own school record last year in the high jump. The native of Spokane, Wash. is also a member of the fastest 4×400 indoor relay team in CUI history with returning teammates. Gunnar ashmon, Miguel ayala and Kessler o’brien.

“The intra-team meeting gives us a fun way to get back to the rhythm of competition after a long offseason,” said the CUI head coach. Keegan Bloomfield noted. “The student-athletes and coaching staff did a lot of work this fall.

All athletes love competition, and there will certainly be a lot of it on Saturday. It also allows athletes to get rid of rust before the start of their indoor season on December 11 in Colorado Springs.

The intra-team meet begins with the field events at 1 p.m. on Saturday and ends with the track events at 6:30 p.m.
