Drunk man asleep in car in South Lynn with engine running

A court heard how South Lynn police found a drunken man asleep in the driver’s seat of a car with the engine running.

An officer was unable to wake Kazys Zemeckis by knocking on the window, but he woke up when a door opened.

Lynn Magistrate’s Court heard on Thursday that there were several empty liquor containers, loud music was playing inside the car and the 30-year-old defendant had no shoes.

The MoT certificate for the Audi A6, which was at Morston Drift at 1.40am on November 22, had expired three months earlier.

Zemeckis, of Saddlebow Road, South Lynn, gave a positive breath test and was arrested.

The court heard that he later breathed 119 micrograms of alcohol into 100 milliliters of breath. The legal limit is 35.

During a police interview, Zemeckis said he stopped and started drinking cider. He had consumed three of the five bottles.

“He said he didn’t drive while intoxicated,” prosecutor Lesla Small said. “He said he had no intention of driving anywhere, he was just there to relax.”

Zemeckis pleaded not guilty to being in charge of a vehicle while over the blood alcohol limit. He admitted to not having a MoT.

The case was adjourned to March 16 for trial and the accused was released on unconditional bail.
