Eagles perform well in Colorado Springs indoor first meeting

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – For the past two days, the Eagles track team has made a long trip to the Rocky Mountains to participate in the Colorado Running Company’s pre-vacation invitation to UCCS. There was a lot of excitement in their first indoor competition of the season as CUI looked to put themselves to the test after all the practice they had put in over the past few months.

The Eagles faced local competitors from Azusa Pacific and local Rocky Mountain schools, such as UCCS and Metro State University. Although only a handful of the team made the trip, each athlete gave their all and provided strong performances in all of their events.

Porshe Eismann won 1st place in the Women’s Mile with a time of 5:43, clearing the second runner by demanding ten seconds. Second year Logan nelson achieved remarkable performances, competing in the 60m, setting a new personal best and achieving good performances in the 200m event. When he first met the Eagles, Freshman Gabriella Hiraldo achieved a new school record of 5cm but nonetheless provided exceptional results in the triple jump and high jump events. Senior Sarah fajer was second in the shot put with a throw of 12.90m, just off first place.

Senior Gunnar ashmon set three new personal indoor track records for men in the 60m, 200m and 400m. Jaylen newman had good numbers in the shot put, starting their season strong with a tie for second. In addition, Angel Aguirre recorded a second place in the men’s 3000m, and Miguel ayala followed suit with his second place in the 800m event.

All participating Eagles gave their all this weekend and are eager to prepare for their next meeting on January 21 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Eagles will have over a month to travel to attend the Prairie Wolf Invitational at Nebraska Weslayan.
