Eastern Athletics gain experience at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University’s athletics program gained valuable experience at Grand Valley State University’s big meet today, Feb. 11, inside the Kelly Family Sports Center.

How did it happen
Graduate student Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) broke the school shot put record with a throw of 21.54 m. As of today, that distance would rank 15th in the nation. The thrower also placed first in the shot put with a throw of 15.5m. This mark is a personal best and good for second place in program history.

The women’s distance runners put in an excellent performance with three personal bests in the mile, highlighted by the juniors by Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pennsylvania – Villa Maria Academy) 4:52.37 time. Moreover, second Esme Davies (Lake District England-Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) improved his 5000m time to 17:13.15.

Junior Alysse Wade (Mansifled, Ohio-St. Peter’s) recorded a season best clip of 8.55 in the 60m hurdles for second place overall. Heading into the competition, the fastest time in 60 hours in the Mid-American Conference was 8.57. Second year Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton CC)) finished second in the same event with a personal best 7.87.

On the men’s side, graduate student Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) won the shot put with a personal best 23.01m. Elsewhere, senior Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, NY-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences) was impressive. He recorded a personal best in the shot put at 18.72m.
