Falcons close out regular season at UCCS Open

Several members of the Air Force Cross Country team will stay close to home this weekend as they close out the regular season against several regional teams at the Colorado Springs XC Open in Colorado Springs late Friday (October 21). ) afternoon.

MEET INFORMATION
The Colorado Springs XC Open will be played on a 2000 meter loop around the first five holes of the Cherokee Ridge Golf Course (1850 Tuskegee Place) in Colorado Springs – elevation 6371 feet. The women will begin the competition with a 6 km race at 4:00 p.m. MT, while the men will follow with an 8 km race 45 minutes later. Timing will be provided by Heartland Timing.



MEN SWEEP WEEKLY MOUNTAIN WEST AWARDS

Sam Gilman and Max Sannes won the second weekly conference awards of their career on October 18, as Gilman was named MW Male Runner of the Week and Sannes was named MW Male Freshman of the Week after strong performances in their respective meets .



FALCONS WIN FIRST USTFCCCA TOP FIVE RANKING
The men received the first national top-five ranking in program history on October 18, as they were ranked No. 5 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s National Division I Poll. . Climbing seven spots after an impressive fourth-place finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational, the Falcons racked up 288 points to record the highest national ranking in Academy history, bettering the previous record of No. 8 from the 2003 season.



WOMEN BACK IN THE NATIONAL CONVERSATION
After finishing ahead of three nationally ranked teams – and four receiving votes – in a 23rd-place performance at the Nuttycombe Invitational, the women returned to the national conversation on October 18. The women had 20 points in the last poll of the regular season – a tally that puts them 31st nationally and just six points off the Top 30.



THE NEXT COURSE
Championship season begins for the Air Force next week as the Falcons travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the 2022 Mountain West Cross Country Championships at Jacoby Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 28.
