Florida Men’s Athletics signs all-around squad in 2022 recruiting class

The athletes will join Team Florida for the 2022-23 season.

GAINESVILLE, Florida – On Friday morning, the nine-time NCAA champion Florida men’s track and field program announced the addition of six new members to its 2022 recruiting class.

This selection of athletes brings a versatile recruiting class to the program including state placers in jumps, throws, sprints and distance events as well as a Junior College All-American. The six signers combined for four state championships at their respective high schools and competed in events nationally and globally.

“I’m thrilled to welcome this group of young men to the Gator Track and Field family,” the Florida head coach said. mike holloway noted. “This group covers all areas of events and will be a major contributor as it grows and matures in our program.

The Class of 2022 joins a Florida program that has placed in the top 5 at 26 consecutive SEC Indoor Championships and 23 of the past 24 SEC Outdoor Championships. From head coach mike holloway took over the men’s program in 2003, Florida has won seven SEC championships and nine NCAA championships.

The Gators signed a pair of long distance runners in Adam Magoulas and Matthew Straton. The pair have combined for three top-3 finishes at the FHSAA State Cross Country Championships during their careers.

This class also includes the sprinter Kevar Williams and sweater Jordan McCant. Williams was the 2021 FHSAA State Champion in the 200 meters while McCants finished second at the 2021 GHSA State Championships in the long jump.

Florida’s All-Round Class Rounded Out by Georgia State Champion and Pitcher Logan Montgomery as well as NJCAA All-American Fabio Hessling.

The six athletes will become eligible from the 2022-2023 season.

Logan Montgomery: Rossville, Ga. (Ridgeland): Throws

  • 2021 GHSA State Champion in Discus and Shot Put
  • Outside PR: 175’10” (Discus), 63’11.5″ (Put Shot), 64’6″ (Put Shot)

Matthew Stratton: Orange Park, FL (St. John’s Country Day): Distance

  • 2021 FHSAA State Cross Country Champion
  • 2021 FHSAA State Championships 3rd Location (3200m)
