Key Game of the Week: Saints vs. Cowboys Run D game

As the New Orleans Saints gear up for a second straight Thursday night game, this time with the Dallas Cowboys, a showdown to watch out for will be NOLA’s offense and Cowboy’s defense.

The Saints are currently losing 4 points to the Bills, according to DraftKings sports betting, but one way for them to beat the odds would be to revitalize their racing game.

It was reported on Monday that Alvin Kamara was back in training on a limited basis, while Mark Ingram and Taysom Hill were full participants. It was also reported that Hill will start this game.

Assuming all three of these players play, it could be a huge boost for a previously tough racing game in New Orleans.

Over the season, the Saints are averaging 3.9 yards per carry, which is tied for the 25th lowest in the league. In the last game, without Kamara, Hill or Ingram, they rushed 24 times for 44 yards in total (1.8 YPC).

Injuries across the offense, including the offensive line, have a lot to do with these numbers. Additionally, the lack of consistency in passing play makes it easier for defenses to predict when a run is coming.

But those numbers need to improve if the attack is to move the ball. And this trio of dangerous athletes with the ball in their hands should help in this area to say the least.

Dallas, on the other hand, has struggled to defend the race all year and there is no indication that will change anytime soon.

They just came out of a game where they allowed 143 rushing yards to the Las Vegas Adventurers, and over the season, they’re allowing 4.4 yards per carry – T-22nd in the league.

Their team’s PFF defense score is 45.3, which is the 27th in the NFL.

It’s essentially a weakness on weakness clash, but with at least a little extra hope for the Saints with some of their playmakers returning to the running game.

The running game will likely be the only consistent way the Saints can move the ball on Thursday night, so this game could decide this game long term.

It will be interesting to see how much the Cowboys devote themselves to stopping the Saints’ offense given the lack of receiving talent and QB’s situation.

Hopefully Taysom and the Boom and Zoom combination can be the spark this offense needs in a pivotal game for the Saints’ playoff prospects.
