NEW HAVEN — The Calvary Lutheran Lions and Lady Lions won the titles in the 1,600-meter races Thursday at the New Haven Quad, which also included teams from New Haven, Bourbon and Hermann.
The Lions took second place with 56 points, while the Lady Lions were third with 45 points. The Bourbon boys (63 points) and the New Haven girls (99 points) won the tag team titles.
Calvary Lutheran had the top two results in both 1,600 races.
On the girls’ side, Maddie Homfeldt won the 1600m with a time of 5:49.53, while Maddy Sprengel was second in 6:07.72.
On the boys’ side, Kyle Hagemeyer finished first in the 1600m with a time of 4:38.22. Jaxson Jobe followed his teammate in second place with a time of 4:43.90.
Homfeldt and Sprengel also went 1-2 in the women’s 3,200 meter race. Homfeldt crossed the line with a time of 13:17.21 for first place, while Sprengel took second place in 13:59.96.
The Calvary Lutheran boys won four more events.
• Ben Kuhlmann took first place in the 300m hurdles in 56.50 seconds.
• Jobe won the 800 meter race with a time of 2:19.33.
• Jobe, Kuhlmann, Gage Pavely and Hagemeyer started the track events with victory in the 4×800 meters relay, with a time of 10:09.70.
• Adam Berck, Kuhlmann, Pavely and Sam Schnitzler won the 4×100 meters relay with a time of 53.76 seconds.
Sydney Morris earned two second-place finishes for the Lady Lions in the women’s shot put (34-foot, 1.25 inches) and discus (99-2.5).
Pavely finished second in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 31-4.75.
Third place finishers for Calvary Lutheran were Jacob Tritz in the boys’ 400 meters (1:07.24), Schnitzler in the 100 meters (13.26 seconds) and Mikayla Yutzy in the girls’ long jump (12-10.5).
Yutzy, Madelyn Goodson, Sprengel and Kaleigh Kaiser also took third place for the Lady Lions in the women’s 4×100 relay with a time of 1:00.65.
