Maybank voted Tribune’s Week 7 Athlete of the Week

It’s been an exciting week and a half for Katie Maybank.

This weekend, the Cheboygan women’s junior golf star will compete in the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals at Michigan State University.

Maybank – who recently broke Cheboygan Area High School’s individual women’s golf 18-hole record by shooting a 74 at regionals – was voted Daily Tribune Week 7 Athlete of the Week after scoring 36.65% of the voice, which beat Onaway’s junior football. player Brendon Brewbaker, who finished second with 31.41 percent of the vote.

It was a close race between the two for much of the voting period, but Maybank was backed by many voters on Thursday and bowed out to win Athlete of the Week.

Maybank’s school-record performance saw her finish third at regionals and help lead the Cheboygan girls’ golf team to a school-high score of 374.
