New Orleans Saints key ingredients to Atlanta Falcons victory

To say that the New Orleans Saints found ways to win in 2021 would be incorrect.

The Saints, 5-2 in Sunday’s game against Atlanta (3-4) at the Caesars Superdome, created ways to win. And the formulas have been successful despite being sidelined, for whatever reason, for any length of time.

Their NFC Southern Division rival will give the Saints another chance to see if the plan they meticulously crafted, combined with swift execution, is the right one. Here are a few things that could be on the list:

1. KEEP TREVOR COMFORTABLE: Quarterback Trevor Siemian will make his first NFL start since Week 2 of the 2019 season. However, it will likely look a lot like a second straight start, as Siemian played nearly three-quarters in the 36-27 win over Saints against Tampa Bay and attempted 29 passes (completing 16, for 159 yards). The Falcons have been a much more accommodating run defense (125 yards per game, 4.4 yards per carry) than Tampa Bay, so there will be less need for Siemian and the offense to be heavy passing. But when the Saints want to pitch, Atlanta is allowing 233 passing yards per game with 69% of passes completed, and the opponents have 15 touchdowns, against three interceptions. Add to that the fact that the Saints are playing at home, and that could be an ideal scenario for Siemian.
