Official of gas agency in Jhunjhunu arrested for “espionage for ISI”
In a joint operation by the Rajasthan police and military intelligence services, an official of a gas agency in Jhunjhunu district was arrested for allegedly spying on behalf of the Pakistani ISI agency.
According to police, the arrested person, identified as Sandeep Kumar (30), is a resident of Narhar village in Jhunjhunu district and ran an Indane gas agency.
Kumar was arrested for sending secret information and photos to Pakistani managers, officials said. Police said Kumar would spy while supplying gas to a nearby military camp.
DG (Intelligence) Umesh Mishra said a Pakistani handling officer contacted Kumar via WhatsApp chats, video calls and voice calls and requested photographs of the Narhar military camp and sensitive secret information.
The Pakistani manager had also lured Kumar by promising him large sums of money, officials said.
Police said that after surveillance by the Southern Command’s state intelligence and military intelligence unit, Kumar was arrested after a joint operation on September 12 and taken to the Jaipur Joint Interrogation Center.
DG Mishra said the Pakistani officer contacted the accused by calling him on his phone around July of this year and requested sensitive secret information. The accused had sent his bank details via WhatsApp and received the money, officials said.
After investigating the accused’s phone, it turned out to be true and he was arrested after a case was filed against him under the Official Secrets Act of 1923, police said.
Recently, security agencies arrested a Railway Postal Service Multitasking Personnel Officer (MTS) for allegedly sending photos of military documents of military significance to Pakistani managers after being trapped by a female agent of a Pakistani spy agency.
