Perry breaks own 200-meter indoor record in Colonels’ open season at Cardinal Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Quantasia perry broke their own school record in the 200-meter indoor as the Eastern Kentucky University track team opened the indoor season at the Cardinal Classic in Louisville on Saturday.

Perry was third in the 200-meter final, clocking 24 hours. This eclipsed his previous school record of 24.27 from last season. Perry also has the fastest 200-meter outdoor time in EKU history – 23.59 – which she raced at the OVC Championships in May.

The Covington, Ga. Native also finished third in the 60-meter final on Saturday, setting a personal best 7.52.

First-year student Aniya matthews made an impressive college debut in the 200-meter, finishing just behind Perry in fourth with a time of 24.29. It is the No. 3 of all time at EKU.

First-year student Madison Fleming also shone in the first game, taking fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles final with a score of 8.68. It’s the best time at EKU since 2011.

New arrivals Alicia Recio (57.0) and Felicia phillips (57.80), meanwhile, scored twice in the women’s 400 meters.

On the men’s side, the seniors Samuel carter took fifth place in the 60-meter final. He clocked a personal best 6.97 in the prelims. Second year Bryson steed also recorded a PB of 7.04 in the preliminaries.

Junior Drew sawyers, meanwhile, won the men’s 400 meters with a time of 50.26.

Senior Bryce Favors-Charleston ran 22.19 in the 200 yards, good enough for fifth place.

The track colonels have the rest of the vacation before they return to action Jan. 14-15 at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington.
