Pittsford Senior Emily Pidd has been voted Athlete of Week 7

Voting for week seven’s Athlete of the Week is over, and now it’s time to crown a winner. The Athlete of the Week award was chosen by our readers and subscribers via our online voting poll found weekly on hillsdale.net. This is the seventh week of the winter sports season that has been eligible for the Athlete of the Week vote. Earnings stories are only available to our online and print subscribers, and are published online every Friday.

Here are the week seven winner, runner-up, and honorable mentions.

Week 7 Athlete of the Week: Emily Pidd – Women’s Basketball – Pittsford

Senior Wildcat Emily Pidd was voted Week Seven Athlete of the Week after receiving 33% of the vote. Pidd was a key player who helped the University of Pittsford women’s basketball team win its two week seven games against Jackson Christian and Colon. The team is currently 7-3 on aggregate and has won its previous five matches. In the team’s 45-24 win over Jackson Christian, Pidd led the team with 16 points.

Emily Pidd went 6-9 in field goal attempts, including making four of her six three-point shots. Pidd would then help the Wildcats make a comeback against the (now 9-2) Colon Magi. Emily Pidd scored six points including a three-pointer in the team’s 44-37 victory.

Reading Senior Ashlyn Tesch (54) was named the week seven finalist for Athlete of the Week.

Week 7 Finalist: Ashlyn Tesch – Women’s Basketball – Reading

Senior Ranger Ashyn Tesch was voted the week seven finalist for Athlete of the Week. After losing two games to Bronson and Jonesville in Week 6, the Rangers would have to wait a week to play their next game against the Quincy Orioles. Looking to bounce back from two straight losses, the Rangers would travel to Quincy and earn a major conference victory that would keep Rangers’ title hopes alive. Senior Ashlyn Tesch would have one of her best games of the season so far. Tesch led the team in scoring and rebounds, recording a double-double. Tesch recorded 12 points, 11 rebounds and two steals in the 48-32 win. The team is now 7-6 on aggregate.

Honorable mentions

Senior Hornet Logan Horn received an honorable mention for Week 7 Athlete of the Week.

Logan Horn – Wrestling – Hillsdale

Senior Hornet Logan Horn helped lead the college Hornets in two meetings in week seven, including one at home on senior night. Logan Horn would pin Hamza Rafferty of Clinton High School in a 1:13 fall. In the second game of the night, Horn would help lead the Hornets to a narrow victory over Dansville. Horn would win his match via a pin with a fall of around 1:16.

Horn and the team would then travel to Grass Lake for an invitational tournament. Logan Horn would win the championship bracket of the 285-pound weight class. Horn would record pinfall victories in his three games leading up to the first-place match. Horn would then face Landen Roe of Birch Run High School for the first place medal, and Horn would win by a 5-4 decision. For his efforts, Horn was voted honorable mention athlete of the week.

Kaden Playford (11) of Jonesville received an honorable mention in Week 7 Athlete of the Week.

Kaden Playford – Boys Basketball – Jonesville

In what would prove to be one of the most important games of the season for Jonesville and Reading, the seniors would take the lead in both schedules in their week seven rivalry match. Senior comet Kaden Playford would have the one of his best games of the season against Reading and would help the Comets to their seventh win of the season. Playford have been an important defensive player for the Comets this season, but in their week seven win over Reading, Playford took the lead in scoring. Playford would finish the match with 14 points including 2 threes. Kaden Playford would also record three interceptions to help Jonesville seal their 45-33 victory. For his efforts, the elder was voted as honorable mention athlete of the week.

Camden-Frontier Senior Dakota Sigler was an honorable mention in Week 7 Athlete of the Week.

Dakota Sigler – Women’s Basketball – Camden-Frontier

Camden Frontier senior basketball captain Dakota Sigler helped Camden to a Week Seven victory over rival and SCAA title contender Hillsdale Academy. The final score of 39-33 helped end a two-game losing streak for Camden. Dakota is one of the leading scorers this season for Camden-Frontier, and Sigler would score 21 of Camden’s 39 points against the Colts. Her commitment and hard work helped the Camden-Frontier women’s basketball team reach a 3-2 record for the month of January. For her efforts, Dakota was voted honorable mention athlete of the week.
