Sending High School Athletes of the Week: Pickerington Central

In voting that ended March 25, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that ran from March 14-20.

This week’s winner is the Pickerington Central men’s basketball team.

The Tigers beat Centerville 55-48 to win the Division I state championship.

Pickerington Central received 56.4% of the vote and was trailed by Tigers star Devin Royal (23.6%) and Afrocentric basketball player Dailyn Swain (20%).

Royal, the runner-up, had 19 points and seven rebounds in a 74-42 victory over Lakewood St. Edward in the Division I semifinals, then scored 20 points in a 55-48 win over Centerville at the championship.

Swain had 32 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals in a 53-48 loss to Ottawa Glandorf in the Division III semifinals.

The Athlete of the Week vote recognizes athletes from all sports.

Nominations are due Monday morning for competitions that took place the previous week.

Once athletes win during the regular season, they are not eligible to be back on the ballot until the playoffs. Athletes who have not been recipients of one of the weekly awards may be nominated more than once.
