Seven Tar Heels Wins All-ACC Outdoor Athletics Academic Honors

Seven UNC outdoor track and field athletes achieved Academic All-ACC status on Thursday, with three men and four women representing the Tar Heels.

Long-distance runners Patrick Anderson, Jesse Hunt and Dolan Owens were the three selected UNC men, while Anna Keefer (long jump), Emerson Porter (pole vault), Jill Shippee (hammer throw) and Madison Wiltrout (javelin) were the four women of Tar Heel. honored.

Eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team requires that student-athletes have at least a 3.0 GPA in both their final semester and GPA throughout their college career.

Anderson is a freshman biology student from Pittsburgh who placed third in the men’s 10,000-meter at the ACC Outdoor Championships – earning All-ACC First Team recognition.

A senior from Perth, Australia specializing in economics, Hunt qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1,500-meter and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

Owens is a sophomore from Charleston, South Carolina, majoring in Psychology. He was fourth in the men’s 800 meters at the ACC Championships, good enough for All-ACC second team honors.

Keefer – a senior from St. Michael Albertsville, Minnesota – is a communications student who won All-ACC honors by placing third in the women’s long jump at the ACC Championships.

Porter is a senior from Charlotte specializing in business administration. She placed fourth in the pole vault at the CCA Championships.

Wiltrout was third at the ACC Championships and 16th at the NCAA Championships in the javelin throw, earning him the status of America’s Second All-All-Star. She is a senior from Connellsville, Pa., Majoring in exercise and sport science.

Shippee – a double major in exercise and sport science as well as sociology – was the CCA champion in the women’s hammer throw. She took third place at the NCAA Championships and was named to America’s First Team All-Star.
