In the last 10 days the Dutch have taken part in two competitions and Haverdink has secured the Top 5 in both competitions.

Haverdink placed fourth at the Tim Thomas Classic hosted by Ridge View with a time of 20:29. Then, at the Storm Lake Invitational last Tuesday night, the Dutch senior placed second behind Lindsey Sonderman of Harlan.
Haverdink ran the race in 19:42 while Sonderman won in 19:36.
Haverdink is ranked seventh in the IATC Class 3A Girls Individual Survey, and she is just one of two Class 3A seniors ranked in the Top 7.
“When she doesn’t win second or third place, she always finishes behind someone who is ranked high enough up there,” said MOC-FV coach Doug De Zeeuw. “She doesn’t mind. She loves competition. She is a mentally strong runner.
De Zeeuw said the main thing Haverdink has worked on this season is his pace. She started the season strong and the Tim Thomas competition is the only one she hasn’t shot in 20 minutes or less.
Haverdink’s journey began admiring former Dutch runner Emma Haley.
The two runners connected straight away. Haverdink noticed how much Haley loved cross country, and Haley was able to show Haverdink the benefits of loving the sport.
