St. Patrick’s School Spring Sports 2021 Recap

The 2021 St. Patrick’s School Spring Sports Season has officially ended. We would like to congratulate all of our teams for their efforts throughout the season. Much time and hard work has been invested on the field, on the track, on the course and in the classroom by our student-athletes to ensure success. There have been many outstanding individual and team performances. We would like to thank and congratulate our spring sports athletes for another great season.

We were delighted to bring our golf team back this school year. Without a season last year because of the Covid, our five golfers were all new to the program. We hope to have a solid season with the return of our five golfers in 2022.

The varsity baseball team had a strong season this year with a 16-7-1 record, won the Kris Popp Invitational and were district champions. Individual honors for our baseball team include:

● Chase Fitzsimmons: 1st team CMAC, All District, Academic All State and will continue his baseball career at Mid Michigan Community College

● Connor Cross: 1st CMAC Team, All Districts, All Regions, All School Districts

● Shane Cook: 1st CMAC Team, All Districts, All Regions, All University Districts, 1st Team All States

● Evan Schrauben: 2nd team CMAC, All District, Academic All State, and will continue his baseball career at Mid Michigan Community College

● Austin Fleischer: Honorable Mention CMAC, Academic All State

● Brayden Simon: Honorable mention CMAC

● Braxton Teachworth: Academic for all districts

The varsity softball team finished with a 22-12 record. They finished second in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference, won the Kris Popp Invitational and were invited to play in the Lansing Diamond Classic. The softball team won district and regional titles and advanced to the state quarterfinals. They also finished first in Academic All State in Division IV with the highest GPA, not only in their division, but in all divisions. Individual rewards include:

● Aurora Beckhold – All-State Academic Player, 2nd CMAC Team, All Districts 2nd Baseman, All Regions 2nd Baseman, Hall of Fame All-Star Game

● Carly Scheurer – 1st team CMAC, all-district outfielder, all-region outfielder, all-state first team outfielder

● Lydia Meredith: 1st CMAC team, district general player

● Emma Honsowitz – Honorable mention CMAC, All District 1er Baseman, All Region 1er Baseman

● Rylee Scheurer – 2nd CMAC team, thrower from all districts, thrower from all regions

● Mara Schrauben: Honorable mention CMAC

● Addison Scheurer: Honorable mention CMAC

● Jocelyn Rockey and Keelie Honsowitz: District and Regional Coach of the Year

The university’s boys’ track and field team had a successful season with a second place finish at the Webberville Invitational, a 7th place at the CMAC and a 10th place at the regional, while competing with just six athletes on the team. Individual accolades include:

● Jacobe Hayes-Dunning: 100M State Finalist (All-State 8th place), 200M (9th place) & 4×200 (14th place); All-Region 4×200 (regional finalist), 100M, 200M & long jump; All-CMAC 100M (1st team), 200M (1st team), 4×100 (2nd team) & 4×200 (2nd team); Grand Lansing 200M honor roll medalist (6th place) & long jump (6th place) & 100M qualifier; Athlete in the competition for the Webberville Invitational; school records in the 100M and 4×200

● Alex Fedewa: 4×200 State Finalist (14th place); All-Region 4×200 (regional vice-champion), 110H, 300H; All-CMAC 4×100 (2nd team), 4×200 (2nd team) & 300H (honorable mention); Fully academic Grand Lansing Honor Roll; school record in 4×200

● Payton Russman: 4×200 State Finalist (14th place); All-Region 4×200 (regional vice-champion) & 400M; All-CMAC 4×100 (2nd team) & 4×200 (2nd team); school record in 4×200

● Seth Frawley: 4×200 State Finalist (14th place); All-Region 4×200 (regional finalist) All-CMAC 4×100 (2nd team) & 4×200 (2nd team); school record in 4×200

The girls varsity track and field team continued to improve and achieve success throughout the season as they won the Webberville Invitational, finished second at the Portland Invitational, finished 5th at the regional meet and finished. 5th at the CMAC. For the first time, the team qualified to compete in the MITCA Team States and finished in 7th place. Individual accolades include:

● Izzy Kissane: State runner-up 4×800 (All-State 6th place) & 4×400 (All-State 6th place); All regions 4×800 (regional vice-champion), 400M, 4×200, 4×400; All-CMAC 400M (2nd team), 4×200 (2nd team), 4×400 (honorable mention) & 4×800 (honorable mention); Grand Lansing 4×200 (3rd place), 400M (4th place) and 4×400 (5th place) roll of honor; Academic All-State 4×800 & 4×400; Fully academic Grand Lansing Honor Roll; 4×800 school file

● Sophia Schrauben: 4×400 State Finalist (6th place All-State); All regions 100H, 300H, high jump & 4×400; All-CMAC 4×400 (honorable mention); 4×400 Superior Lansing Honor Roll (5th Place)

● Rylee Scheurer: 100M & 200M State Finalist; All regions 100M, 200M, 4×100 and 4×200; All-CMAC 4×200 (2nd team) & 200M (honorable mention); Grand Lansing 4×200 (3rd place), 100M (11th place) and 200M (9th place) roll of honor; Athlete of the competition for the Portland Invitational; Grand Lansing Honor Roll

● Tessa Lawson: 4×100 and 4×200 all regions; All-CMAC 4×200 (2nd team); Great role of honor for Lansing 4×200 (3rd place); Grand Lansing Honor Roll

● Marlie Bengel: the whole region 4×100; Grand Lansing Honor Roll

● Olivia Pung: 4×100 for all regions

Together, the girls and boys track and field teams won 243 medals.

As a Catholic school, we expect our student-athletes to represent us in a positive way, bring Christ to all they do and make us proud of their sportsmanship. Without a doubt, they did and represented our school mission statement: We Pray! We are learning! We realize ! to their full potential, given by God.
