Tomasula-Martin named Mountain West Cross Country Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Senior red shirt Lily Tomasula Martin was named Mountain West’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance at last Thursday’s Bill Dellinger Invitational, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Tomasula-Martin of Estes Park, Colo., Placed ninth out of 166 runners with a time of 20: 20.5 in the 6,000-meter race. At the team level, she led the Rams, then No.25, to a second place ahead of four top-ranked teams in the Oregon stacked race which included a total of nine ranked or receiving teams. With the performance, the Rams jumped three spots to No.22 in the USTFCCCA’s Week 3 poll that was also released on Tuesday, marking the highest number of women Rams since 2008.
On the Bill Dellinger Invite, three Rams finished in the top 20, with the last two scorers ranking 29th and 32nd to complete points for Colorado State. For Tomasula-Martin, this is her second honorary weekly conference of her career.
The award marks the second of the season for the Rams as Claudia burgess received the honor after the opening of the season.
Next, the Rams will compete in the UCCS Open, hosted by UC-Colorado Springs, on October 8 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
