Tony’s Take – Saturday Run Game Key to Tech Game

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia – That’s right. Past performance is NOT indicative of future results.
However, you can make a very convincing case that the team that rushes the ball for more yards on Saturday wins the game.
It is that simple. It really is.
Consider that Neal brown is 38-4 as a head coach when his team has more rushing yards than the opponent. This means that his team wins 90% of the time. Say what you want about past performance and future results, but I put my cart on the side of the story.
Now for the friction.
It won’t be easy to gain more yards than the visiting Hokies. In two games, Tech is averaging 175 rushing yards and allowing just 106.
The Mountaineer offense is averaging 52 yards less rushing.
To be fair, our sample size is insufficient. Two games don’t make a season, and it is certainly too early to make an accurate assessment of both teams.
What we do know is that a variable that could play a huge role on Saturday is NOT showing up on a stats sheet.
It is the advantage of the field. Ask North Carolina how things went in Blacksburg when “Enter Sandman” sounded over the speakers at Lane Stadium.
Ol ‘Sandman didn’t just walk in, he never left. Tech fans were electrified, as was their team. They really made a difference in the outcome of the game.
The Tar Heels went punk.
WVU fans have the same opportunity on Saturday. An on-going West Virginia task force needs a boost from Mountaineer Nation.
It hasn’t happened in a while, but it has happened so many times in the past.
If you are too young to remember it, then go to YouTube. If you are old enough to remember it, then rejuvenate yourself.
Sure, you can’t carry the ball on Saturday, but you could help the Mountaineers win.
Complete the mission and I’m sure Neal brown would be more than happy to let you carry the Black Diamond Trophy.
Have fun, cheer loudly and we’ll hear you on the radio.
