Track and field strengthens the sprint team and signs Anthony Woods
The Youngstown State Track and Field Program has signed sprinter and former Cincinnati star Anthony Woods for the 2021-22 season, head coach Brian Gorby announced Wednesday.
“The athletic family and staff are really excited, Anthony is committed to participating in our program here at YSU next season,” said Gorby. “Having Anthony on our team will help us make great strides in preserving the legacy of the YSU Sprint Championship, led by Coach Townsend, in 2022! “

60m: 6.78 seconds
100m: 10.40 seconds
200m: 21.19 seconds
Woods ‘personal best scores sit well in the ranks of the Penguins’ all-time rosters in the trio of events.
Prior to joining the Penguins, Woods graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2020 with a major in commerce and was on the Bearcats sprint squad for three seasons (2017-2020). While there, Woods competed in the 60m, 100m, 300m and 4x100m relay races for the Bearcats. No stranger to Division I level, Woods ranked 18e at the American Athletic Conference outdoor championships with a season best time of 10.90 seconds in 2018.
Woods began his college career spending a season at Ohio Dominican before transferring to Cincinnati. As a member of the Panthers track program, Woods won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA Division II) Individual Championships in the 100m (outdoor) and 200m (indoor) during the 2016-17 season. . He also holds the ODU school records in two events – 60m (6.85 seconds), 100m (10.53 seconds).
Woods graduated in 2016 from Nordonia High School in Macedonia, Ohio.
