UC Bearcats prepare to compete in World Championships in Athletics

The University of Cincinnati will send some of its track and field athletes to compete in the world championships. Annette Echikunwoke will compete in the hammer throw while Steven McElroy earned a spot to run the 400. Echikunwoke won the NCAA title for UC in the shot put in 2017 and qualified to represent Nigeria at the Summer Olympics in 2020. McElroy, a soon-to-be sophomore, won the U20 national championship in the 400 meters over the weekend. He also broke his own school record of 44.93 seconds. The 19-year-old track phenom has said his real goal is the 2024 Olympics. McElroy is in safe hands with coach, Nadine Faustin-Parker, who is a three-time Olympian turned UC coach. The 2022 World Championships in Athletics are scheduled to be held July 15-24 in Oregon.
