UC XC team participates in Cedarville

// CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati cross-country teams competed in their second race of the season at the All-Ohio Championship. Even without their full teams in the race, the Bearcats’ men’s and women’s teams were competitive at Cedarville.

The women’s team placed 9e out of the 34 teams present and 5e of 8 Division I teams. The men’s team scored only 4 riders, so they did not have a place. Teams must score 5 runners to place. Miami (OH) won both titles in the competition.

Julius Hild was UC’s top finisher in the men’s 8km with a time of 25: 14.5, which earned him 5e place overall, and 4e schools in Division I. Lea Maschino was the top finisher for women in the 6k event, placing 26e overall and 18e Division I riders with a time of 23: 14.7.

Lucas rothenberger, head coach of the men’s team, said of his team’s performance: “We managed a partial team today, and I think we’ve seen some encouraging things. Julius Hild and Christian stevens ran hard. The conditions were pretty tough at the time of the race so I was very encouraged by the way they competed. We will take what we learned today and continue to evolve and grow as a team. I would expect we will have our full college roster when we run to Notre Dame in two weeks. Today was not a glamorous outing, but it was necessary for the development of some key members of our team. Overall it was a solid day. “

Lara Rogers, Women’s Head Coach, also said: “We had some strong individual performances today. Lea Maschino had a very solid day as our top rider. And it’s nice to have Sam mikula back making big gains week after week. We haven’t organized our full lineup, but we’re bringing things together week after week. The group works hard and I am delighted to see the whole team together. Expect this pre-national weekend. “

// MEN’S RACE
As Rothenberger said, the All-Ohio Invite was encouraging in showing the depth of the men’s team. The course took place entirely in the sun at 2:00 PM on a 90 degree day, so it took a lot of strength to compete. Hild hung on with the first group of runners during the first half of the race and was able to cement his place in 5e towards the end, even passing a few runners in the finish chute. Christian stevens also performed well, finishing second for the UC men and 21st in total with a time of 26: 00.8.

// WOMEN’S RACE
Throughout the women’s 6k, the race seemed to be split into a few groups at different paces. Maschino ran a good pace for the 6k, staying strong enough to slowly work his way forward for the second half of the race. Maddie walker finished second for UC, finishing 34e overall and 23rd in Division I with a time of 23: 30.3
