USC added another headliner to its 2023 recruiting class on Friday as five-star catcher Zachariah Branch chose Trojans live on CBS Sports HQ. Branch, one of the nation’s most talented players, chose USC over Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma and Arizona.
Branch is a monster addition to Lincoln Riley’s first comprehensive recruiting class in Los Angeles, which is quickly shaping up to be one of the best in the country. The wide receiver is the third five-star rookie in the class, joining quarterback Malachi Nelson and athlete Makai Lemon, both from Southern California.
Rated at 5ft 9in and 172 pounds, Branch claims elite speed as a grill star and standout. The industry standard 247Sports Composite ranks Branch as the 14th overall Class of 2023 player, including the # 2 receiver. Branch ran a confirmed 10.33 over 100 yards and 21.01,200 yards assisted by the wind. He also recorded a 24-0 long jump and a 46-4.25 triple as one of Nevada’s top track and field athletes.
The addition of Branch gives the Trojans a top recruiting class No.3 in the country for the 2023 cycle, behind only Georgia and Notre Dame. In less than a month on campus, Riley has signed five players with five-star ratings, more than Clay Helton has landed in his last four recruiting classes – with more potentially on the way.
