Here are the nominees for News & Observer Athlete of the Week. Readers can vote as often as they like until Friday, around noon, when the poll closes.

Nasir Bell, Thales Academy Rolesville: The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 32 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game as Thales Academy Rolesville beat both Friendship Christian and Neuse Christian.

Bell had 34 points, seven rebounds and five steals in a 93-58 win over Neuse Christian on December 7.

He also had 30 points, eight rebounds and four steals in a 69-52 victory at Friendship Christian on December 10.

Bell is averaging 25.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game for Thales Academy Rolesville (5-4) this season.

Cael Bergquist, Patrimonial struggle: The Huskies junior won the 126-pound title with three pins in as many games at the Joe Johnston Wrestle for Pride Classic at Enloe High on December 11.

Bergquist is 17-0 until Sunday.

Lindsey Carter, Ravenscroft basketball: The 6-foot-1 senior center averages 12 points, 19.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game as Ravenscroft split games with Grace Christian and Greensboro Day.

Carter had 10 points and a school record of 20 rebounds in a 42-27 victory over Grace Christian on December 7.

She followed with 14 points and 19 rebounds in a 32-30 buzzer loss at Greensboro Day on Dec. 10.

Carter, who has six double-doubles in nine games, averages 13.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for Ravenscroft (3-6, until Sunday).

Jacob Doherty, Middle Creek Wrestling: The first-year Mustangs won the 113-pound title at the Joe Johnston Wrestle for Pride Classic at Enloe High on December 11.

Doherty has 14-3 until Sunday.

Janay Edwards, Cary Academy basketball: The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game as Cary Academy beat Cary Christian and Trinity Academy while losing a close game to Carmel Christian.

Edwards scored a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 37-33 victory over Cary Christian on December 7.

She also had 16 points and eight rebounds in a 32-19 victory over Trinity Academy on December 9.

Edwards recorded another double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 55-52 loss to Carmel Christian on December 11.

Cary Academy is 3-4 until Sunday.

Teagan Farrell, Smithfield Selma Swimming: The second-year Spartans won three of four events she competed in at a Quad County Conference meet on Dec. 9.

Farrell won the 200 IM, the 100 butterfly and helped the 200 IM to claim victory in the same competition. She also helped the 200 free relay to finish second.

Jackson Froh, Wakefield Wrestling: The senior Wolverines went 2-0 this week at 170 pounds with two bowling in the first round in a tri-match with Cedar Ridge and Sanderson on Dec.9.

Froh has 10-3 until Sunday.

Taliyah Hobson, East Wake Academy Basketball: The 5-foot-6 senior forward had 22 points to lead East Wake Academy to a 53-19 victory at Neuse Charter on December 10.

Hobson is averaging 11.8 points per game for East Wake Academy (4-1, through Sunday).

Sire Holmes, Neuse Charter Basketball: The 5-foot-9 junior scored 25 points, caught six rebounds, four steals and three assists to help Neuse Charter clinch a 61-53 victory over East Wake Academy on December 10.

Holmes is averaging 14 points, six assists, five steals and three rebounds per game for Neuse Charter (8-1, until Sunday).

Mallory Johnson, Cary Christian Swimming: The eighth-grade Knights swam his personal best times to clinch second place in the 200 IM (2: 31.17) and 100 butterfly (1: 13.86) in a tri-meet with Cary Academy and Triangle Christian Community (TCC) at Triangle Aquatic Center on December 10.

Johnson also helped Cary Christian to finish second in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays at the same competition. Cary Christian’s women’s swim team beat TCC, but lost to Cary Academy in the competition.

Johnson has secured state qualifying times in all eight individual events in four meetings this season, until Sunday.

Will Otto, Broughton Basketball: The 6-foot-3 junior had 21 points, four rebounds and two assists in a 67-50 victory at South Garner on Dec. 7.

Otto also had 26 points, three rebounds and four assists in an 86-78 win at Millbrook on December 10.

Otto is averaging 23 points, six rebounds and three assists for Broughton (6-1, until Sunday).

Cale Stevens, West Johnston Wrestling: The elder Wildcats went 6-0 on the mat this week to improve his record to 18-2 until Sunday.

Stevens won matches at 220 pounds against East Wake and Knightdale on December 7.

Two days later he won the heavyweight class and pinned his opponent Neuse Charter in 35 seconds.

Stevens ended his week by winning all three games to claim the 220-pounder title at the Joe Johnston Wrestle for the Pride Classic on December 11.

Mari Wilkerson, Neuse Christian Basketball: The 5-foot-10 runner-up averaged 34.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game as the Lions beat Thales Academy Apex and Thales Academy Rolesville.

Wilkerson had 36 points and 18 rebounds in a 61-27 victory at Thales Academy Rolesville on December 7.

He also had 33 points and 15 rebounds in a 55-28 victory over Thales Academy Apex on December 10.

Wilkerson is averaging 25.3 points and 13 rebounds per game for Neuse Christian (2-2 until Sunday).
