Women’s football faces Lamar for scoreless draw
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s football team faced the Lamar Cardinals in a scoreless overtime draw on Saturday at the UTRGV soccer and track complex.
The Vaqueros (5-11-2, 1-6-1 WAC) outscored the Cardinals (7-7-2, 4-2-2 WAC) 15-10, including 9-4 on goal. The Vaqueros also held a 6-3 lead over corners.
Junior Emilie Zapata attempted a record five shots, including four on goal. Second year Elina Seppälä attempted three shots, including two on goal. Second year Anna torslov also offered three shots, including one on the net. Juniors Anna barkey and Shentatious knox each also attempted a shot on goal.
Nicole panis (6-7-1) made nine saves for the Cardinals for the shutout.
Isela Ramírez led the Cardinals with three shots, including two on goal.
Graduate student Maile Lunardi (3-10-1) finished with four saves for his fourth shutout of the season.
The UTRGV is back in action Thursday at 7 p.m. against Abilene Christian at the UTRGV Soccer and Athletics Complex. Free entry. Those who cannot attend the game in person can watch in the US on ESPN + or internationally on the WAC digital network.
