Women’s soccer falls to Stephen F. Austin
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s football team fell to the Stephen F. Austin Jacks 2-1 on Sunday at the UTRGV football and track complex.
Led 1-0 after six minutes of the second half, the Vaqueros (5-8-1, 1-3-0 WAC) scored their only goal in junior Shentatious knox cut to the top of the box, sent a cross to his right, and junior Anna torslov used his left foot to send the ball over the head of Madeline Talbot (5-5-1) in the back left corner of the goal.
Torslov now has three goals and a team-high equaling nine points. It was Knox’s first assist, bringing his point total to seven.
Talbot stopped the other two shots on goal for the Vaqueros.
The ‘Jacks (5-5-1, 3-0-0) attempted six shots on goal. Their first led to a goal, a strike from Laney kimble in the 11e minute. Carly wyatt added the winning goal in the 76e minute.
Graduate student Maile Lunardi (3-7-1) finished with four saves.
The ‘Jacks outscored the Vaqueros 12-11.
The UTRGV resumes service on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Lamar. Those who cannot attend the game in person can watch on the WAC digital network.
