Women’s track and field debuts on program at Susquehanna Invitational

SELINSGROVE, PA– The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s indoor track team made their program debut today at the Susquehanna Early Season Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pa. The Seahawks had five athletes competing in the inaugural meeting and while the Hawks weren’t finished with the results they were hoping for, today was a great opportunity to compete and test the capabilities of this brand new team.

How did it happen.

  • The women’s team had six athletes competing in five events at the Susquehanna Invitational. Seahawks Molly Antuncci, Jordan bailey, Ariana Lecouras, Nathalie Romero, Ariat Ojulu and Alana thompson had the honor of representing St. Mary’s athletics at the birth of the program. The six Seahawks made a big effort in their events
  • Antuncci and Thompson competed in the 200-meter sprint for the Seahawks. Of the 33 competitors in the race, Thompson dug deep to follow his opponents and crossed the finish line in 23rd place in 30.98 seconds. Teammate Antuncci tried to stay close to Thompson and managed to secure 28th place for the Hawks at 32.22.
  • Antuncci also competed in the 400 meters alongside Romero. Romero emptied the tank to claim 12th place in 1: 12.84. Antuncci followed closely and finished just two seconds behind Romero, clinching 13th place in 1: 14.87.
  • For her second event, Romero competed in the 800-meter race with her teammate Ojulu. The 800-meter race would be the only event for Ojulu today, so she emptied the tank to claim the Seahawks’ sixth place in 2: 47.41. Romero finished last of the seven competing runners with 3: 00.94.
  • Thompson competed in the 60-meter sprint for his second and final event of the day. The 60-meter sprint brought together 19 runners and Thompson was 17th in 9.11 seconds.
  • The last event for the women of St. Mary’s today was the 3,000-meter race. Bailey and Lecouras lined up against the 14 other competitors in the race but were unable to stay ahead of the pack. Lecouras took 13th place at 12: 55.44 while Bailey fell 16th at 14: 42.65.


The Seahawks will travel to Fairfax, Va., Where they will compete at George Mason University. The appointment is set for Saturday January 8.
